I signed up for the 6 month program to receive all lessons. I don’t know if you received all the money due you because I had to change my debit card. Please let me know if I owe more to get the lessons 8 through 12.
Thank you,
Tammy York
Hi, Tammy – Let me check on that for you and I’ll email you.
Sarah
I just checked and I pay through my paypal account. Everything should be okay. I guess I am just not due for lesson 8 yet. I am not ready for it, but just wanted to know how far out my lessons were available. (And how much more I have left to pay.)
If you could let me know this, that would be great.
Tammy
Tammy, my Project Manager has just sent you an email to clarify your questions. 🙂
Sarah, I am just completing unit 3, and want you to know I love your course. I have a quick question though : my work thus far with the HB pencil and others is becoming so smeared, not only from completing the exercises, but it seems to be getting worse the more I flip through the sketch book. Is this normal, or might I still be a little heavy handed with the pencil. You have such a nice light touch Sarah. Does that just come with practice? What might I be able to do about the smears?
Thank you for everything,
jeffreyanne sheridan
Jeffreyanne,
So nice to meet you. I’m glad you are enjoying my drawing course.
Your question about smearing is a common one. A certain amount of smearing can be expected, but there are a couple of things you can do to keep it at a minimum. If you are, say, right handed, start shading the left side of the composition first and work across to the right, and vice versa if you are left handed. Also, try to keep a piece of paper under the heel of your hand as you shade.
It also wouldn’t hurt to spray a very light layer of fixative on your drawing every now and then and let it dry before continuing your shading. Just make sure you are spraying very lightly.
Jeffreyanne, are you making sure you are doing an initial block-in first before starting to shade? That is critical because if your block-in is done correctly and you have checked your work against your subject and it looks good, then and only then should you start to shade. If you skip this step and you jump right into shading you will probably realize you have made mistakes in proportion and scale that would have been corrected in the block-in stage. Then when you try to erase you may find it doesn’t erase completely and it leaves a messy ghost image. That never looks good. Could that be contributing to your smearing problem?
But be sure to print out the drawing secrets I share in Lesson 1, review them often and use them when you draw, especially the mirror technique. I never draw or paint when I’m in the studio without using a mirror.
Good luck and let me know how it’s going.
Sarah
Hello Sarah,
Don’t know if you remember me, but I recently completed your wonderful course. You shared that I have some talent as portrait artist and encourage me to pursue my passion. I recently paid for a critic, so hopefully you will see portrait soon. Thank you so much for your support. Looking forward to your critic.
Joseph
Hi, Joseph! Of course I remember you! It’s hard to forget such great enthusiasm for drawing. I can’t wait to see your work. 🙂
Sarah.
