A Word from the Author (Me!)
“More than just teaching you how to draw any one particular thing, the purpose of this book is to teach you how to draw anything you see. Anything. That requires a systematic, methodical approach to lay a solid foundation with each concept building on the previous. If you take the time to learn and practice the concepts in this book diligently, you’ll find yourself able to draw pretty much anything you see around you, no matter how complicated, because you will know how to strip a composition down to its basics and then build on that.”

One-Time Art Critique with Sarah Parks
One of the most invaluable resources available to an artist to help them develop their skills is professional critique. It’s one thing to ask your friend or neighbor if they like your work, but a professional artist is able to pinpoint exactly what works in your drawing or painting and what needs improvement. Moreover, a professional artist has the knowledge to explain exactly how to improve the weak areas of your painting or drawing. With my extensive experience in both pencil drawing and painting in portraiture, landscape, figurative, and still life subjects, I provide thoughtful, detailed critiques for not only the young or less experienced artist, but also the long-time artist who needs a professional eye for his or her drawing. Just click on the Buy Now button below and you will be taken to a form where you can submit your images directly to me. You will need to have a clear digital image of your critiqued drawing to email to me and, if possible, a digital image of the composition you worked from. You may purchase as many critiques as you wish. (For a sample critique, click HERE.) (This particular item will be purchased through PayPal.)

Testimonials from critiqued customers and students:
I understand what you’re explaining because I have, over time, gathered many excellent books and videos on drawing. For me, the main issue with these media is the lack of feedback, so I value your critiques very much identifying where to focus and how to correct issues.
— Dermot Hayes
Thank you so much for your course. The teaching and encouragement was great. I appreciated being able to download and print the lesson materials. I’m sure I will refer to my binders with these lessons in weeks to come. Watching the videos were very helpful in understanding the lesson. Your encouraging critiques were always inspiring and helped me continue even when I didn’t think I had done very well. I always want to do it better. You encouraged me to keep trying. I don’t know what you could do to improve this course. I learned well from your teaching style, and the content was excellent, especially the way each lesson built on the previous one. Thanks again for your excellent teaching.

Sarah,
Thank you for sending drawing tips. I love receiving these. I bought one of your courses quite sometime back and still refer to the lessons. For sometime now I haven’t been able to get back to my daily drawing practices because I started a classical art program for children and it keeps me so busy with lesson plans, etc. I have some tween students who love drawing, especially couture designs. I, personally, enjoy drawing portraits, however, it’s time for me to take a course with you on Fashion Illustration so I can better help my students. Do you offer such a course?
Blessings,
Liz Calais
Liz,
Thanks for your email and your nice comments about my drawing course you bought. It took me over a year to create it because I wanted to make sure it gives students the theories and techniques that I would have liked to have had when I first started out.
How great that you have started a classical art program for children. Getting them trained on focusing on spatial skills will help them as they grow older to be able to access that part of their brain when they want to tap into their creativity.
I’d love to do a course on fashion illustration, but at this I have been busy compiling a book on drawing that NorthLight Books has asked me to write for them. And I’ve also been preparing material for three DVD’s on figure drawing and faces for ArtistsNetwork TV. After that I have a portrait commission to do. So maybe later I can develop something on Fashion Illustration. I assume you’ve seen some of my work in that area on my website: http://www.sarahparksartist.com. If I can produce something in that area, I’ll definitely announce it on my website.
Regards,
Sarah
Hello Sarah,
I now have all of my materials to get started for secrets revealed. Been practicing the tonal scale, pencil grips , hatching and cross-hatching. looking forward to lesson two.
That’s great, Joseph! It’s exciting, isn’t it? Just post a comment on a particular lesson page if you’re having any difficulty or questions. I’ll be happy to answer them for you. 🙂

Hello Sarah,
I just love trying to draw seascapes, building and city scene. Do you use the block-in for those kind of drawings as well? As I mention before, I really enjoy your teaching style. When I grow up, I want to be like you!
Hi, Joseph! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the course! Yes, absolutely you can use the block-in for landscapes like seascapes and city scenes. ANYTHING you draw can be blocked in with the method I show. You just use the same procedure for any scene – the principles and steps are the same. Try it yourself: try drawing a landscape of your choice WITHOUT doing a block-in first, and then try it after doing a block-in first. I’m sure you’ll see the difference. The purpose of a block-in is to ensure proper placement, scale, and size BEFORE getting into dark shading which will leave ghost images when you need to erase.
Let me know how that experiment works for you! I’d love to see both images side by side. 🙂
Sarah.
